I really enjoyed reading 'Struglend Tales'. It's set in a great fantasy land with hilarious characters and an amusing plot. It's very well written and I am looking forward to reading more from Jan Jacob Mekes in the future.

An entertaining and funny book full of short stories based on prompts from fans. If you don't like a story just sit tight, because a new one will be along in a few pages with different characters, a different theme, and plot which is sure to tickle your fancy. Enjoyable and highly recommended.

I bought this book a while ago, but I have re-read it several times. It's fun, quirky, and unpredictable (well, not unpredictable when re-reading it :) ). The book consists of five light-hearted detective stories and each has it's own unique story and setting. "Jewel Friedman and the Tropical Surprise" is my favorite. The idea behind this story is brilliant.

This is a fun book with 28 short stories. Got 15 minutes until your friends arrive? Read a story. Waiting for the pizza you just ordered? Read a story. Bored in the waiting room while your wife is giving birth? Read a story!

If you're looking for a book about a short bewildered young man with hairy feet and a large walking stick on a long journey to throw a beautiful piece of jewelry into a volcano, this isn't it. Neither does this book contain any information about Ikea's selection of furniture and there's a disturbing lack of instructions on how to operate a German tank built between 1941 and 1946. It's almost as if this isn't the main point of this publication. If you're into hardcore S/M and bondage then this book isn't for you either as it contains almost none of that. This book will also neither function as a vase or a dildo, I have tested both things with disappointing results. However, if you for some reason enjoy a story set in a dystopian future then you should check this out. You'll learn about a seemingly forgotten island and its inhabitants, who live quiet and simple lives undisturbed by the restrained and strictly governed mainland, the Maternopole. Events unfold on the island and it becomes a strategic piece in an ongoing war. The characters are well written and much of the island is described in such detail that you almost feel like you're there yourself trotting alongside aunt Beryl. Barbara and Eric. There's a rich background story although many things are not explained in the book and it is up to the reader to draw his own conclusions. Ultimately, it's an interesting and original story, and one can only hope that the author will follow it up with a sequel.
