First off I will say that I do not normally like poetry...too deep, too esoteric, too..something for me. But I love a well-written story, stories that ignite the imagination in the telling, stories that play with language and invoke admiration (why can't I write like that??). This collection of story poems is all that I love about writing (and reading) and more. I'll admit that this author has a deeper understanding of human nature and what makes us tick than I do...and therefore some of his poems rise to the level of the kind of poems I avoid (this is actually a back-handed compliment and should endear him to you poetry lovers out there too). So I confess most of my favorites are the ones that tell a story. I found that all the poems take on a greater richness if they are read aloud, for then the beauty and cleverness of the rhyme shines forth. Here are my favorites: In the Scullery (good story), Dear Stranger (thinker), Always (would be great as an anniversary gift to your spouse!), That Sabbath Morn (achingly beautiful), The Land of Broken Dreams (good story), Master of the Sea (good story and thinker), Spindly Little Men (chillingly fun, with masterful word plays), The Last Manuscript, Free Clinic (good story and thinker), The Case of the Missing Faith (fun read and thinker), Kristallnacht (tugs at the heart), September Skies (good 911 reflection), and From The Beginning (here's the whole Bible from start to finish in one great poem!). I've never read an author like this one...he is one of a kind and a master of the word and weaving words into rhyme. His fertile brain will be sure to produce seeds of wonder in yours which will blossom into flowers of revelation, joy, laughter, and many "ahhhh" moments. All that for $5.95. It's a bargain not to be denied.
