David retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy Submarine Service, where he received many decorations and commendations during his career. The most prestigious was the Navy Achievement Award for accomplishments in technical training as an instructor. He authored tech manuals, lesson plans and was a curriculum writer for the Submarine SONAR Course.
He states he gave up any aspiration of becoming wealthy when he made the decision to make a career of the military at 27 cents an hour. This was done out of patriotism.
His last tour of duty was at the Naval Intelligence Support Center, Suitland, Maryland where he was an Acoustic Intelligence Specialist. His job was to act as an advisor to Commanding Officers of Attack Class Nuclear Submarines. Here is where he met his lovely wife of 37 years, Paula.
After retiring from the Navy he became owner of Crusader Boat Company in Key West, Florida designing and building 34 foot fiberglass boats. He was also President of Aqua-Harvester Corporation producing and marketing Florida seafood and he was Vice President of the Florida Commercial Fishermen’s lobbying organization.
He retired for the second time retreating to Montana, relaxing and doing a lot of fishing and community service. He served as President of the Beaverhead Chamber of Commerce and also as president of the Southwest Economic Coalition. He then moved to Nevada and took up the game of poker as a hobby and won some of the major tournaments. He authored a poker “how to” book, The P$ychology of Poker P$ymplified.
