Dee Burt earned her Master of Science degrees in Education and Counseling at Indiana University. She began journaling to help deal with the aftermath of her husband’s suicide during the first few semesters of her undergraduate coursework and continues to write and teach writing daily.

Dee brought the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Out of the Darkness Community Walk to Bloomington, Indiana in 2009. She was the Chairperson for the walk in 2009, 2010, and 2011 and continues to volunteer for suicide prevention. Dee presents Loss & Grief and Writing Workshops to educate students, teachers, parents, and staff on suicide prevention. Dee employs bibliotherapy techniques with individuals and small groups of all ages.

Dee cofounded Pen & Publish to provide beneficial educational and emotional health building opportunities.
