This book immediately hooked me in from the very start, so much so that it was difficult for me to put this story down. The pace moves along nicely and you really feel Martin's anguish. The character descriptions bring those involved in the story fully to life; especially loved the description and care in describing Ivory and Ebony. Despite details aplenty about unfolding events, I would never have guessed the ending. Given Martin's obsessions, I thought how the sex came about glossed over as I feel that this event warranted more description as this would have been a massive moment in Martin's relationship to only Ivory but the story itself. But that is easily forgiveable given what a gripping story this is. Also really liked the closing scene; again, not what I would have guessed or expected. Highly recommend this story!

Great short story skilfully combining Victorian language style with modern horror imagery. The narrator character is very engaging, and will instantly draw you into his story smoothly with his tone of interest and intrigue. My only want is that it was all a little crammed in, but I have to remember that it is a short story and to satisfy my curiosity about Emily Darkwood I will just have to download and read them all! Highly recommended read :)
