Lara Whitmore

I grew up among the forests of Washington. Paradise. The trees and pine-scented air inspire the settings for my stories. My tendency to be a night owl inspires the paranormal. I've traveled across the USA and sailed along the coasts. I've held a dozen jobs away from home and backpacked across Europe. But the greater Seattle area always calls me back. I'm among family here, including Melissa, my twin sister and best friend.

Smashwords Interview

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Writing novels and novellas keeps me fairly busy. But I do love to read, and go running. I enjoy photography, videography, painting, and graphic design, so I've recently been conceptualizing ways to compile my skills into an indie magazine or short film series.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've been writing the same novel for almost four years, off and on. I would like to publish it traditionally, as I feel it deserves more exposure than indie publishing provides. But I know it might be another two years before its release, even if I signed with a literary agent tomorrow. I couldn't wait that long before diving into publication. So I began writing novellas to give myself an outlet for my impatience. At first, I deemed it more casual writing, but I've grown to take it just as seriously as the writing I'd like to publish traditionally. My long-term plan is to publish novel-length works traditionally and shorter works via indie publishing.
