Ian Hawley

Biography

I've been writing now for a few years, had a number of pieces published, worked on Flash Fictions, Poetry and other formats, but I really just like to write,

I was told by a friend that there are two things to being an author.

The first is that to understand what it means to be a author, you have to write a million words. (It turns out you can't just copy and paste the same word over and over), which I've done. Spread across different sized pieces and styles, including numerous edits etc.
The second was to never do it for the money, but the love.

I enjoy it, and spend a lot of my spare time either sketching out thoughts, or planning pieces. (Research is Key)
I guess when it stops being fun, I should stop too. But for now, I'm going to keep on going, I have almost 50 pieces to complete so I might be some time.

I hope you enjoy the work I post, please do give feedback, it's always useful.

Smashwords Interview

What are your five favorite books, and why?
It always pains me to put books in orders, but there are a few in my LOVE pile, and these are in no particular order.

Paul Biegel's King of the copper Mountain, I was given this when I was 6 from my auntie, and I loved it.

Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea. I got this one from the school library and just fell in love with it, the flow, the character everything was just so spot on for me that Earthsea opened up in my mind. Totally engrossed with it.

Richard Matheson's I am legend, so much better than the move and much deeper.

John C Maxwell's - Failing forward, This one just opened my eyes to how much of my own life I am in control of, and to stop worrying about others. If you don't try, you don't get and it it doesn't work, try again.

Miyamoto Musashi's Book of Five Rings. Great read, and at the time I was doing Martial arts so it really hit home.

There are more in my fav. Collection, but you asked for five.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything. Really.
I've read all of the Dresden books, the Lord of the Rings (Obviously) I like factual books that develop my thoughts and dreams. Zombie Survival guide (you never know) and things like The World Without us, and Apocalypse 2012.
