This was a very entertaining book with great complexity and depth. Ms. Smythe’s writing is very descriptive and she creates such vivid imagery that it is easy to imagine the people and the scenery and even visualize the magical powers that the characters can manipulate.
I like the fact that neither side of the veil is entirely good or evil but rather a little of both. This holds true for many of the main characters as well. The two primary characters are likeable and the author takes the time to develop some of the secondary characters also.
The overall atmosphere of this book is a bit gloomy and the first chapter is a little difficult to follow, primarily because of all the new terms and hasty character introductions. But I did enjoy reading this book and look forward to reading the next installment.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
