Smashwords Interview

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Finding an agent is a near impossible, truly frustrating process. We have been publishers since 1996 when we purchased our first computer system, and printing was still a multi-thousand dollar investment. On demand printing has revolutionized the industry for new authors - and old ones - and allowed artistic talent to have a chance in the world of literature. When my thesis was complete, I wrote a book and the obvious choice was indie publishing. Even for those whose books would attract an agent and traditional publisher, the royalties and rights involved with indie are exceedingly better.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I write non-fiction books about mythology, folklore, and symbolism. But I also write original classic style fairy tales. The Lost Unicorn is about a princess from a tiny kingdom who goes on a great quest with her guardian to find the Lost Unicorn Kingdom on the Isle of Mist. She seeks them to help her save her kingdom from invasion by a wicked queen and evil wizard. The second book in the trilogy is almost finished, Song of the Mermaid brings in the characters of Lost Unicorn and adds those of the Mermaids and Fairies.
