Jay Cannon

Biography

Jay Cannon grew up in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. He became hooked on science fiction when he used to run home from junior high school to catch the original episodes of Star Trek. He spent six years in the U.S. Navy working on the flight deck of aircraft carriers, which felt like being on a starship. After leaving the Navy, he spent several years in the software industry. During that period, he passed time reading science fiction books and watching science fiction movies. He eventually decided to stop writing programs and start writing books.

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I love writing. Ideas constantly flood my mind and I am eager to get them down on paper. Using traditional publishing is tedious and time consuming. I like the ease and flexibility of the indie world.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords provides a free and "simple" means for publishing books and distributing them in several formats. The service provides lots of tools and advice to new and seasoned authors for how to be successful at publishing and marketing their books.
