Jayne Barnard

Biography

Best known among Steampunks in Canada and around the world as the Mind Behind Parasol Dueling, I am a founding member of Madame Saffron's Parasol Dueling League for Steampunk Ladies and a longtime crime writer. My Steampunk adventure novella, MADDIE HATTER AND THE DEADLY DIAMOND, is fresh out from Tyche Books in autumn of 2015, and available in print and e-book the world over. Other new releases in 2015 include two anthology appearances: ‘Quest for Parts’ in ENIGMA FRONT and ‘Sudden Death’ in AB NEGATIVE.

My short fiction draws on Canadian history, mystery, and geography, and locales expand to both outer space and alternate dimensions. My fiction and non-fiction has appeared in Freefall, Storyteller, Monday Magazine, Transitions and numerous other periodicals and anthologies. Awards for short fiction range from the 1990 Saskatchewan Writers Guild Award for Princess Alex and the Dragon Deal to the 2011 Bony Pete for Each Canadian Son. My mystery manuscript, WHEN THE BOW BREAKS, was shortlisted for both the Unhanged Arthur in Canada and the Debut Dagger in the UK.

A long-time board member of Mystery Writers Ink, a founding member of Calgary Crime Writers and an online member of Sisters in Crime (Toronto Chapter), I also served the Crime Writers of Canada as Prairie Region Vice-President.
