When did you first write for an audience?
I started writing for an audience when I taught Pre-K. I wrote and illustrated books for the children in my class, including the children by name in the stories to help get them more engaged in learning to read and write. The children enjoyed the books they and their friends were in as did my fellow teachers. I ended up making copies of my books for each Pre-K class. Eventually I started including Velcro pulls with the children's names on them to allow the children to decide which part of the book they wished to be in.
What is your writing process?
It is the voices in my head, and they argue with me when I tell their stories wrong. Really that does happen but thankfully it is not often that way. Each story (book/series) is different. Some of them it is as easy as I see a picture and make up a story in my head about it. Others have tiresome outlines, diagrams, charts and pictures to go with them to ensure I keep the thread of the story/series going properly.
