Kae Cheatham

Biography

Kae (Karyn Follis) Cheatham has written for newspapers and national magazines, including American Cowboy and Pro Rodeo World. For several years she worked as an assistant editor at Athlon Sports Communications, Inc. She has also edited for Thomas Nelson and Falcon Press. Her poetry has been published in Pikestaff Forum, Redneck Review…, Crosscurrents and other literary journals.

Kae has more than a dozen published titles, two each with Harcourt Brace Jovanovich and Westminster Press. KANSAS DREAMER: Fury In Sumner County, is from KAIOS Books (September, 2002) and was released as an audio book (May 2005) by Books In Motion. The 1997 juvenile’s biography of activist Dennis Banks (ENSLOW) was a Finalist in the 1998 Spur Awards competition. Her second contemporary young-adult book THE BEST WAY OUT (HBJ), was voted one of the top 50 social studies books for 1982 by the National Council for the Social Studies—Children's Book Council Joint Committee. Crocodiles, a middle school nonfiction book for schools and libraries, was released in 2001 from Lucent Books.

Freelance editing and production has helped produce a decant of recent titles, including the pre-production rewrite of FIRST HEROES FOR FREEDOM by Silver Moon Press. Kae also wrote and produced the 1998 32-page program for Lone Star Rodeo company.

As a photographer, she was a finalist in the Spring 1993 Photographer’s Forum national contest and has professionally photographed rodeo, equine events from mule pulls to eventing, and canine activities (dogsled race and agility). She works from Helena, Montana.
