Biography

I’m right at about 27, and I absolutely don’t feel like it. Just a few days ago I found myself geeking out over Lisa Frank folders, (woo nostalgia!!!) and thought, Who in their right mind decided I should be considered an adult??

I’ve yet to collect quite a few of those ‘adulthood’ milestones. Never had my own place, never had a mortgage, never been married, never had kids. Actually, whether or not I’ve ever even had a boyfriend is up for interpretation.

But then again, there are a bunch of milestones I’ve collected that most ‘adults’ couldn’t match. I’ve lived in six different states, and a couple dozen different cities (military family, you know?) I’ve held jobs in retail, tech support, and baking, among other things. Maintained a 4.0 GPA for a full two years in college before I got bored (and also ran out of money). I’ve lived with idiots, weirdos, creepers and freaks, and even people who AREN’T my family. I’ve been to the Alamo, the Colorado mountains, and lived an hour and a half away from the Grand Canyon for two years without ever ONCE managing to find the time to go see it.

I’ve done a lot and learned a lot, and excelled at pretty much every job I’ve ever had, but what I love to do the most is write. Now I have one book done and quite a few more planned, and with any luck they’ll become popular enough that I can make writing them my only job.

Smashwords Interview

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Unfortunately, yes. I think I was about twelve or so, and it was a fanfiction for Card Captor Sakura. Oh, it was terrible...there were mermaids involved, sappy pathetic romance, and multiple uses of the word 'imply' when I meant 'impishly'. I don't remember much else about it, I've probably purged it from my memory to protect my sanity. I started writing my first original story when I was sixteen, and it wasn't much better. I had a lot of really cool ideas, and didn't realize that I couldn't just dump them all into a story all messy-like and expect it to turn out as cool as it was in my head. Thankfully, I've gotten better since then.
What is your writing process?
I'll get an idea which I'll then develop into an outline, constantly asking myself questions about it to make sure it makes sense. I never want something to happen in my stories just because I want it to, there has to be a good reason for it. After that it's just a matter of filling it in, which sounds a lot easier than it is. Once I'm finished with almost any scene or chapter, I will most likely be totally convinced it's absolutely terrible and that I'm a complete hack. Then about a week later, without having changed a single line, I'll read it back over and be like, "How am I so AMAZING? This is the best thing that's ever been written in the history of ever!" ...and then a week later, "Ugh, what was I THINKING?"
