This is the first installment of this series that I've read. It does pick up from a cliffhanger but it is still enjoyable on its own. This is really a relationship-building segment of the story; it provides a nice window on Mr. Drake's efforts to make Isabeau feel safe in her role in his life.

This story is as much a well-written scifi short as it is erotica. In particular I really felt Jessica's anxiety about the coming dark and the danger an unexpected snag outdoors coul bring near dusk, in part because of very effective world-building. The sex is hot and appropriate to the plot.
