What is your writing process?
I find myself learning just what that really is for me. For many years I have started and finished manuscripts, then submitted and few and was totally rejected. Then I gave up, shelved finished and unfinished work. Recently, finding I have more time on my hands what with Covid 19 restrictions, and social distancing I have revisited those work and to my horror they are riddled with errors grammatically, spelling (my worse subject), and sentence structure. Since most of these finished and unfinished work are Sci-fi, and mystery they need a complete rework in Word with grammar and spell check features. Most of these works where written prior to my college years. I have noticed the difference in my writing skills between past work and current new work. English Grammar was not my favorite classes in High School or elementary, lousy grades. Took me nearly 45 years since high school to actually go to college and apply myself to learn English Grammar and writing skills. Now I find myself actually enjoying writing and despite Covid 19, find myself devoting uninterrupted writing sessions, 8 or more hours a day.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
i must admit I can't remember what that first story was in general. Sadly, because of my childhood learning disabilities, and after repeating 3 physical grades over, I was 15 years of age before I actually had the mechanics to allowed me to read with proficiency Once that window opened, I read Fantasy, Sci-fi, Biographical, and "Rite of Passage" fiction and non-fiction. I would have to say that "Rite of Passage" fiction and non-fiction where my favorite stories. Even today, my library holds some turn of the century 1900's fictional stories that have been the model of my writing today in bringing alive new contemporary "Rite of Passage" stories for young teens. As to what was my favorite I just recalled. It was Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit at age 15. Even then it was considered college prerequisite reading.
