Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
It may not be the first, but its one of the first and it had a huge impact on me. I read the Nate the Great books as a kid and fell in love with mysteries. But better still, it was the kind of detective I loved. A hardboiled private dick who was always on the right side, even if a few times it was the wrong side of the law.
They spoke to me and to this day are one of the books I'll point to as changing how I looked at a good story.
How do you approach cover design?
Because I do it all myself, my approach is simplicity. I want to give a hint at the story, without giving anything away. Someday I hope to have a professional help me in giving new life to my stories, but for now I'm ok with something simplier.
Covers should attract the attention of the reader, but the summary should be why they buy the book.
