This book is a quick and relatively easy read. Decent YA Dystopian story with one part "The Running Man," one part "Hackers," and one part "Pretties." It does take a couple of chapters to adjust to the language, but it is more readable after that. There are some pretty good action scenes throughout. I am fascinated by the young blind Frag and wish the author went into detail a little more about her.. The characters are just intriguing enough to make it hard not to want to read any possible sequels. LT Member Giveaways Gamers Thomas K. Carpenter
  • Heiress of Lies (Bloodtruth #1) on Jan. 04, 2013

This book starts off with a smart and strong female MC and ends with you wanting to know what happens next. The very different vampire origins premise is a nice addition. This novel has quite a few twists and surprises that separate it from other paranormal stories. The historical/fantasy setting also sets Heiress of Lies apart from the more blase vampire novels. Come on book 2. LT Member Giveaway

A quick and easy read for adults. The story starts off a little slow, but about a third of the way through, the flow of the writing is much better. Then you just have to finish it to see what happens to the villagers. Also, the second half is more family-friendly, while the first half seems to be geared more for adults only. Maybe the author should write two versions! Overall, funny novella with some memorable Scottish characters. LT Member Giveaway [book:The MacLosers|15815089] [author:Paul Moxham|5428449]

An interesting comedy compilation of high school monster misfits. All of the short stories included in this collection are decent, although some outshine the others. • The Unwanted Heiress on June 19, 2013

This historical romance/mystery is delightful, witty, and full of suspense! The characters are smart and likeable, from the MCs to the supporting characters. One of my favorites is John Archer, who is similar to many of Jane Austen's matchmaking characters. The female lead is strong and intelligent without being obnoxious and the Duke is downright comical at times in his avoidance of persistent ladies. Absolutely adorable novel! • Broken Life Journals - A Fight for Forever on Aug. 07, 2013

A decent historical romance; however, the writing seemed to lose momentum from time to time. This work has lots of potential! The female MC has a great story, but comes off a little annoying. The scenery is nicely described. LT Member Giveaway [author:Vangie Williams|2956354] [book:Broken Life - A Fight for Forever - Book 1|8421244]
  • The Way on Nov. 12, 2013

Wow. This book surprised me. It's got a great storyline, some pretty interesting characters, and an emotional intensity that pulls the reader in. There's a lyrical darkness that accompanies the plot and some comforting but natural humor mixed in as well. I recommend this YA/NA novel to readers of dystopias, especially fans of the Wither series. I look forward to the next book in this series. LT Member Giveaway
  • The Dead Man's View on Nov. 17, 2013

A cozy and romantic historical mystery with great characters and a plot that pulls the reader in and doesn't let go until the end. I could not put this book down! The writing flows well, the two MCs are smart, and the story unfolds like a mixture of Clue, Downton Abbey, and Midsomer Murders set during the Regency period. Although I suggest reading the prior books in this series as well as any others with some of the same characters, you can read this novel as a stand-alone. LT Member Giveaway
  • Girl with Flying Weapons on Jan. 27, 2014

4.75 Stars A short and fast-paced historical adventure mystery! This book introduces some wonderful and wacky characters, though my favorite has to be the MC's love interest Fang. Imagine a spy/assassin chick (I picture Lucy Liu) in ancient China with a touch of Sherlock sleuthing skills. There's going to be a sequel too (cannot wait). This work is a quick and enjoyable read. Recommended for YA and adults, especially those who like Asian cozy mysteries. LT Member Giveaways
  • Return to Ala Moana Beach on Feb. 12, 2014

A beautiful and moving story about what happens after a soldier comes home. The characters and the gorgeous setting illustrate a realistic and lovely world. Hawaii is a character by itself. Not only does the author portray the returning soldier well, but she does an excellent job describing the feelings and thoughts of his family. The story revolves around the veteran's trauma, but also everyone who cares about him. I love it. LT Member Giveaways
  • Paleo Desserts: Mouth Watering, Indulgent, and Easy to Make Paleo Desserts for Losing Weight, Feeling Great, and Satisfying Your Primal Cravings on March 10, 2014

This dessert collection is put together very well. It has an introduction on the basic ingredients used in most of the recipes, about 50 dessert recipes with alternatives, substitutions, and some notes, and a few paleo books for further information. I have tried the candied pecans and it's delicious. I cannot wait to try the simple popsicle recipe! Recommended to readers and cooks interested in the paleo diet or anyone who wants to eat dessert without feeling guilty. LT Member Giveaway
  • Of Sea and Stone on March 26, 2014

4.5 Stars Heartbreaking and beautiful! This new YA series has elements of romance, mystery, and adventure wrapped up in a fairy tale retelling. The main setting is underwater. The characters are wonderfully developed for a shorter novel and the world-building is sensational. I cried for Nol! If you enjoyed the Frost Chronicles, you will find this work just as satisfying. Recommended. LT Member Giveaway
  • The Spider and the Stone on May 07, 2014

A well-researched, historical adventure work set during medieval Scotland and focusing on James Douglas. The author blends primary sources, legendary historical figures, and believable speculation into a very detailed and well-written epic. The book incorporates the military history of the Scottish quest for independence, some Templar lore, and a Shakespearean love story. This is historical fiction at its best. If you like Conn Iggulden, you will love this novel. LT Member Giveaway

  • The Virgin of the Wind Rose on July 04, 2014

4.25 Stars An adventure end-of-the-world epic that spans centuries. This historical mystery is told in two separate storylines, one during the Age of Exploration and the other in contemporary times. Religious fanatics, spies, government conspiracies, and beautiful landscapes are included throughout. The author did some serious research. Perfect for Dan Brown or Steve Berry fans. A beginner's guide to Paleo smoothies with more than 80 different recipes. All of the combinations have easy to follow instructions and a few of the recipes are original (I haven't seen them in other smoothie ebooks). Most of the recipes are sweet, but the author has included a few savory smoothies as well. Good for anyone wanting to eat a bit healthier. Also a good start for convincing kids to eat more fruits and veggies. LT Member Giveaway
