M. O. Muriel and J. L. Muriel

Biography

M. O. Muriel is the winner of the L. Ron Hubbard's Writers of the Future 2011. She is also the winner of the Illustrators of the Future 2010, making her the first female to win both contests since their inception, and the first to do it in back-to-back years. With a B. A. in Creative Writing from the University of New Mexico, which she earned with High Honors, cum laude (May 2004), she has sold both short stories and illustrations to speculative fiction e-zines such as AlienSkin and NewMyths.

Currently, Muriel resides near Ft. Hood, Texas. When she's not busy herding kids and ferrets, and generally holding down the fort, she's trying to squeeze in a moment or two for writing and illustration—forget the katz!

J. L. Muriel is a Captain in the United States Army, with 15 years prior service in the United States Marine Corps both as a Gunnery Sergeant and a Captain. In 2007, while serving as a Military Combat Advisor in Iraq, he was struck by lightening one day sitting in on a council of sheikhs who could never seem to get anything done, and came up with the idea for The Land of OCKT. The Iraqis became the katz, the Marines Combat Advisors became the kat herders, and his exploits abroad created a launching pad for the adventures Peeje has “along the way.” Mix in the antics of his pet ferrets and the OCKT universe was born out of a big bang of absurdities.

Currently, Muriel is attending the Career Captains Course at Ft. Benning, Georgia.
