My introduction to MCA Hogarth was her excellent serial "Spots the Space Marine"; despite that rather misleading title, it's strong, tersely written military scifi with actual characters. What a concept! And her Kherishdar books are equally wonderful. I've resisted much of her other work, though, because I'm not much for "furries." Not any more. I've recently powered through all of her Jokka stories, and not one was a waste of either time or money. This one remains my favorite, perhaps because every writer faces the challenge the clay-keeper Ke Pediná faces. I sure do. I do agree with Elizabeth's comment about "okay." Many writers do it in "translating" concepts from other languages. I find it jarring and anachronistic whenever writers do. I prefer its actual meaning: "all right." That, however, is niggling. Be careful with the Jokka stories. If you read one of them, you'll have to read all of them.

Another Jokka story. There's not much to say I didn't say elsewhere, except to warn that if you visit the Jokka you'll keep coming back. This is a completely believable, well-built world, and it's addictive.

I wanted more of this. I want very much to know what happens to this new-founded House. The Jokka stories are all wonderful, and for the price of a fancy coffee you could have handfuls of them (many free). Go buy dem. :)
