This was definitely a difficult book to put down! I absolutely loved it! It started out with such a suspenseful and dramatic scene that I, from page one, found myself caught up in the story! Danger seems to be following Aurora Kavvan everywhere. Years ago, her brother was killed in front of her with her gun - Aurora still blames herself for his death. Now her partner was shot when they were on a stakeout and she would have been next had she not shot and killed the gunman! Someone is clearly after her, but will Aurora be able to stay alive in time to find the people behind these attacks? 'Shadows from the Past' was so enjoyable to read. I loved the characters and their stories. Aurora and Jordan's love story was very sweet and I hope their story continues in the next 'Shadows' book! This book is also a lesson on forgiveness and how God is in control and nothing happens without it being His will. If you don't particularly like suspense novels, than 'Shadows from the Past' probably isn't for you. But if you are like me and love reading suspenseful novels, then 'Shadows from the Past' is definitely for you! I loved it (as I've said already) and 100% recommend it! A great story from a new-to-me author! I look forward to reading her next book 'Shadows of Suspicion'! *I was provided an ebook copy for review purposes. The opinions I've expressed are my own.*
  • Dark Hearted on Dec. 16, 2012
    star star star star
4.5 stars Dark Hearted was a great suspenseful read! After reading Dark Liaison last year, I was looking forward to the next installment in the COIL series, and Dark Hearted did not disappoint! The story had a lot of action-packed moments and held my attention. I found the characters great and, while there were some sad moments, it did make the book more believable. Overall, I really enjoyed Dark Hearted and look forward to reading the next COIL novel, Dark Rule. If you like good, clean, suspenseful reads, then I recommend Dark Hearted - although you might want to read book one first. :) *I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book for my review. • Shadows of Pain on Dec. 19, 2012
    star star star
Shadows of Pain is the third book I've read by Ashley Dawn and I found it to be another good suspense novel. Even though I've read the first two books in the Shadow series, it's been a while and I found myself a little confused about who everyone was... it would have been nice if things would have been explained a little more. I liked both of the main characters in Shadows of Pain (Daniel and Kami) and getting updates on the main characters from the previous books. I did think the writing was a little repetitive at times, but the story was still really good. While I don't think this is my favorite of the series, I still enjoyed it a lot and look forward to reading more by Ashley Dawn in the future. If you like suspense novels with some romance, then I think you might like Shadows of Pain, but I recommend first reading books one and two (Shadows from the Past and Shadows of Suspicion), because otherwise I think you'll be really confused. *I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book for my review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*

  • Engraved on Dec. 20, 2012
    star star star star
Engraved was a very interesting read - just like the other three books I've read by Amber Garza (The Prowl Trilogy). I really liked the characters and while there weren't that many surprises in the book, I still found parts of it suspenseful. Engraved dealt a lot with drugs and addiction. There was also mention of a rape and some heavy kissing. Because of that, I would only recommend this book to mature readers. Overall, I really liked Engraved and look forward to reading more of Amber Garza's books in the future. If you like books that deal with addiction and have some suspense, then I think you'll like Engraved. *I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book from the author for my review. • Shadows of Suspicion on Jan. 11, 2014
    star star star star
3.5 stars Shadows of Suspicion was a good read. I had read book one in this series, Shadows From the Past, in late 2011, so I couldn't remember all of the details, but I think this book did an okay job of reminding me what had happened. I loved both of the main characters - Luke (there was so much mystery to him and I just loved learning about him and his past) and Kerry (I liked how strong she was). Of course, I also liked Kerry's brothers - Rick, Jordan, and JJ. I will say, the way the book was set up (multiple POV's) took some getting used to and there were some grammatical/punctuation errors that were hard for me to ignore (and normally that sort of stuff doesn't bother me). All that said, I still really liked most of the story and loved the romance and suspense! I look forward to reading the next book in this series for many reasons, one being how some things didn't seem "finished" and I'm hoping the next book will answer some of that. *I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book for my review. • Dark Rule on Jan. 11, 2014
    star star star star
3.5 stars Dark Rule is the third book in the COIL series and another intriguing read. I thought it was really interesting how Corban wasn't one of the main characters in this book - that definitely gave the book a different feel from the previous books. The story itself was unique (especially part one of Dark Rule) and held my attention. A couple of things that happened in the story seemed kind of far-fetched (at least to me), but I did still enjoy the book. I particularly liked getting to know Nathan's character better. Overall, Dark Rule was a good read and I think fans of Christian suspense/spy novels will enjoy it, as well as the entire COIL series to date. I plan on reading Dark Vessel, book four, when I have time as well as Telbat's other novel, Sea Scribe. *Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention/review it on my blog. • Entice: Prowl Trilogy #2 on Jan. 11, 2014
    star star star star
Entice is the second book I've read by Amber Garza (the first being Prowl earlier this year) and I really enjoyed it! It was easy to read and very interesting! The characters were great and the love triangle between Kenzie, Isaac, and Tanner kept me intrigued (even though I knew who Kenzie ended up with, having read a spoiler review). Entice dealt a lot with spiritual warfare and demons/angels, which was interesting; but I will say, a few things I found weird and didn't like. Entice ended with a major cliffhanger, so if/when you read it, you'll probably want to have Unveil (book three) on hand - I had to read it right after I finished Entice. :) If you enjoy YA fiction with some supernatural elements, then I think you might enjoy Entice, although you'll probably want to read Prowl (book one) first to completely understand what had happened to Kenzie earlier. *I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book for my review. • Unveil:Prowl Trilogy #3 on Jan. 11, 2014
    star star star star
Unveil was a really good book that I enjoyed reading. It dealt a lot with spiritual warfare and I found that interesting (although at times it was slightly weird). I liked a lot of the main characters and my favorites were Kenzie, Isaac, and Tanner. I don't particularly care for love triangles, so I was glad when that was finally resolved in this book. I'm happy to say that I think everything went the right way and I'm happy with the ending. :) Like the first two books in this series, Unveil was very easy to read and I finished it in about a day. If you enjoy YA novels, then I think you'll enjoy this book, but you should probably read the first two books because otherwise things might not make sense. Recommend. *I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book for my review. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion, which I've done.
