Michael Alcroft is the pen name of Dr ME Smith, an American professor of international relations in Scotland. He is a former Fulbright scholar to the European Union in Brussels, where 'The Spy Bazaar' is set, and has lived in Europe for eight years. He specialises in the study of international security, technology, and military history, particularly involving the causes and consequences of the First World War.
