Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and then moved to Southern California where I spent my teen years. I enjoyed California, but always wanted to return to the big city. I have been back in Brooklyn for over twenty years now. Although I have performed many blue collar jobs in the past, for the past fifteen years I have been a member of the New York City Bricklayer's Union. I did not have the typical upbringing and was arrested and incarcerated for the first time when I was fourteen years old. I have witnessed shootings, stabbings, and other violent acts and try to use those experiences in my stories, which are mostly set in New York.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first story when I was seven years old. It was about a boy who stole a dinosaur egg from a castle. And then, for some reason,I never wrote another. I've always had ideas floating around in my head, but never actually thought about putting those ideas to paper. Five years ago, I decided I wanted to write. I recorded some of my old ideas, added new ideas, and then read every how-to-write book I could find. I wrote short stories at first, which are now available for free download on Smashwords, then I began my first novel, JIHAD ON 34TH STREET.
