Smashwords Interview

How can you research and write about these gory crimes?
I've be taught a long time ago to detach myself from "what I have to do or see". Sorry, that's vague but I'm not permitted to elaborate. I've seen the worst of the worst in criminals, serial and spree killers....up close and personal. The worse kind of crime scenes you can possibly imagine. To separate your emotions is not easy...that's why since retiring I write and publish so that my mind is active and doesn't drift back. Most people are fascinated with the criminal mind. That's why shows like Dexter, Criminal Minds, Cold Cases, CSI are so popular. We don't want these killers in our neighbourhood or course but to learn what makes the dregs of society tick is curious to most people.
What is the most heinous crime you've written about?
Writing about school shootings. When I was writing No Killing in the Hallways, I was an emotional wreck. Being a parent of two teenage girls in school, and to research and write about what happened at V. Tech and Columbine, was emotionally draining.

Females, the loving and caring protectors of our species and the ones that are more susceptible to danger, are in fact the most dangerous because they are the least suspected of the serial killers. Like their male counterparts, they show no remorse and have no mercy for their victims. Should we still call them the weaker sex?

  • Fighting The Mob on Aug. 08, 2011

Brilliant book.. If you enjoyed this one, check out VL45 as its along the same lines with a vigilante against a gang. I would love to see a sequel to Against the Mob, which I would have named.. DEATH, by force.. As Jonathan was forced into the marine corp, forced to avenge his family and at the end there's another force which I don't want to spoil for anyone. I loved this book... Great writing Max.
  • The Baying Witness on Aug. 08, 2011

I didn't realize when I downloaded it that this book has a grand total of 6 pages. It has the makings of a good story but the writer decided to kill it at 6 pages?

  • The Gumshoe Diaries on Aug. 10, 2011

Just finished reading this book today in one setting. Over 200 pages and a very good story..love the characters and I hope to see Gumshoe in another book soon. Only thing was there was alot of grammar errors and too many question marks when it shouldn't be...other then that, I would recommend this book very much.
  • For Sale in Palm Springs: A Henry Wright Mystery on Aug. 12, 2011

I stumbled across this ebook and I'm so glad I did. I compare Henry Wright to the Robert Crais character Elvis Cole. And, I only just realized this is the 1st of 6 books so I most certainly will be downloading the others right away. Awesome book and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a good mystery.

WOW! An excellent book, brilliant writing, great story. This author has a wonderful sense of humor and several times I had to stop reading as I was laughing so hard. I love the character of Tess Fuller and will most certainly add Mr. Nixon to my favorite author list. 5 Stars!!
  • Blood Ties on Sep. 01, 2011

Further to my previous review, I only just discovered that JD is a female, so exclude the Mr. Nixon and add Ms. Nixon (I hope she's not like Fiona lol)... EXCELLENT, SUPER BOOK.

Another very good, well written novel. I enjoyed the charcters but I thought the ending could have been better.
  • Heller's Revenge on Oct. 06, 2011

Ms. Nixon simply out done herself in "Heller's Revenge". The characters she created in the 1st book "Heller" are all back including the smart-ass, witty and trouble magnet Tilly and the mysterious security company owner Heller. Tilly has a few assignments including; having to babysit an obnoxious perv who happens to be a billionaire and the author includes alot of side-splitting scenes that are just too funny. Tilly unexpectly has to fill-in at a fashion show and ends up parading in lingerie which everyone sees on youtube...Niq and Daniel really torment Tilly over that one, all in fun. Do Heller get his revenge with Brian (Tilly's brother) who is a total arse? You bet he does! Download the book and find out how... This is a fast paced book with lots of excitement, suspense, comedy, and mystery. I positively recommend "Heller's Revenge"... thank you JD for another enjoyable novel.
  • Lust, Money & Murder - Book 1, Lust - A Female Secret Agent Takes on an International Criminal on Oct. 12, 2011

  • The Heart of an Assassin on Oct. 14, 2011

  • Deadly Stillwater on Oct. 19, 2011

THIS IS A VERY GOOD BOOK. THE DAUGHTERS OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE AND A PROMINENT LAWYER HAVE BEEN KIDNAPPED, AND THE KIDNAPPERS ARE NOT LEAVING ANY CLUES BEHIND WHATSOEVER. THE LOCAL POLICE DETECTIVES AND FBI ARE CHASING THEIR TAILS AND CAN'T GET A BREAK. THE NOVEL IS FREE (THANK YOU), WELL WRITTEN, VERY INTERESTING AND GRIPPING RIGHT FROM THE GET GO. I WILL ADD THIS AUTHOR TO MY FAVS AND LOOK FORWARD TO HIS FUTURE WRITINGS. EXCELLENT!!!!
  • Two Bits Four Bits on Oct. 22, 2011

Very interesting book, the characters were good...would like to see a sequel
  • Classmate Murders on Nov. 04, 2011

Well, I'm hooked Mr. Moats!! I stumbled across "Classmate Murders" last week and have since read the first 4 "Murder" books. Such amazing stories! The recurring characters are so well rounded; Richards is funny, smart and likeable, Buck reminds me of Hulk Hogan, Penny and Lt. Trapper adds flavor to your books. I love the comedic tones in these stories and often have to pause reading as I'm laughing. The friendships and even romance are heartwarming. These are fast paced murder/mystery/suspense/humor books and are frigging addictive. Brilliant work Bob.... Ronnie Mercer
  • Border Crossings on Nov. 16, 2011

One of the best books I've read in a long time and I read 3 books every week for about 30 years.... wow, would love to see a sequel
  • Blood Sport on Nov. 28, 2011

JD Nixon continues to write one great book after another; I have read all her books and I dearly enjoy reading about Tessie, the Sarge and or course who could ever forget about the Super (Fiona)... her foul mouth and hard-ass persona will cause you to pause from reading to catch your breath from laughing. I love Litte Town and it's characters; don't like the hillbilly Bycrafts though, what a mean bunch of uncivilized savages they are... JD, ya gotta hook up the Sarge with Tessie :) although the reader can see the chemistry there and I think that's where it's heading (I hope). Besides a great few laughs, it's a very good suspense. There is an issue of bikers that rape young girls and it's a tad bit hard to read emotionally, but, it's a fact of life unfortunately. I don't want to spoil anything here so you're just going to have to read it yourself ha. Almost 400 pages...excellent, excellent book, can't wait for the next one. 5 Stars for sure. Congratulations JD on another well written, well edited novel.... Ronnie
  • Dark Quarry: A Mike Angel Private Eye Mystery on Nov. 29, 2011

Dark Quarry is a fictional murder, mystery book featuring Private Detective Mike Angel, and its setting is the mid 1960’s. It is the genre that I like and very well written; the character of Mike Angel is quite likeable, actually he is terrific and he’s a romantic at heart. He also has a good sense of humor so there are a few chuckles. There is a lot of action in this book and it’s easy to read and flows well. I will give it five stars for the storyline. Brilliant work! • Clearwater Journals on Dec. 23, 2011

Clearwater Journals captured by Al Rennie is in a word, a 'Masterpiece'. If you enjoy Robert Craig's Joe Pike, or Lee Child's Jack Reacher, you will love Joe 'Doc' Holiday. Joe is mid 30's, retired Detective from Toronto, Canada because he was shot. He moved to Clearwater, Florida and works odd jobs. Enter Mia - a pretty waitress who works at IHOP where Joe regularly eats. Mia's sister was killed three years ago and the killer was never captured. She asks Joe to help her investigate the case. There are people who do not want them poking their noses into the death of Mia's sister, and subsequently, Mia is brutally attacked as a warning to back off. However, this has a reverse effect on Joe - he is out for blood. The characters in this book are very likeable, such as Mia, Joe, and Coop. There are also characters that you will hate, but Joe takes care of them. The storyline is brilliant...very enjoyable. I really found it hard to put down: it is filled with suspense, mystery, and action. The author adds a nice flavor of humor throughout the book as well. One of the best books I have read this year and will be reading the sequel, Clearwater Diaries right away. 5 Star for sure. RJ Parker Author
  • Blood Legacy on Jan. 17, 2012

Blood Legacy by Author Carl Hose is a book written about the most prolific serial killer in history, Jack the Ripper. But it`s not simply another book written about the Ripper. The author adapted a story from one medium (true crime) and made it work in another (fiction). This had to be a daunting task, and a great amount of work researching serial killers. I found myself amazed at the creativity of this fine book. An excellent storyline; well-written with a lot of surprises. This is a must read! - RJ Parker is the author of seven serial killer books.
  • Long Road Home on Jan. 17, 2012

Long Road Home by Author Carl Hose is about a 23 year-old who kills his abusive stepfather. Him and his 18 year-old sister run from the law and while hiding out in motels across various states, they develop a sexual relationship. The book is erotic, full of suspense, likeable characters such as Toby, Trish and the lead detective Harry. Although there is incest between consenting adults, the author turned the taboo into a loving relationship. The storyline is superb, the book is well-written, and it does have a happy ending. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. Author RJ Parker
  • Fematales on Jan. 19, 2012

Fematales written by Carl Hose is a collection of super hot, erotic and stimulating stories. Written with finesse, these sexual adventures are steamy, sexy, and deadly. The main character in each story is a female serial killer and sexual predator. The book is a breathless decent into the least likely killers; black widows, angels of death, who are all deadly sexual predators brought to life through their psychological motivations. This is an unforgettable book that is gripping and heart-stopping, and of course, extremely erotic. ~ RJ Parker, author of 7 serial killer books, including, Women Who Kill.
  • Heller's Girlfriend on March 08, 2012

I was introduced to JD Nixon's books a couple of years ago and really love both of her series, Heller and Blood. JD has become my favorite author. Heller's girlfriend is a brilliant story with an added dab of humor at times. Loved it. Thank you JD for sharing your wonderful stories with your fans.
  • Heller's Punishment on March 11, 2012

Loved the book. Can't wait for the next one. JD Nixon has created a great series with wonderful lovable characters. Excellent!!!
  • Finding Sarah on May 08, 2012

FINDING SARAH (PINE HILLS POLICE) is the first book in the Pine Hills Police trilogy. Meet 28 year old Sarah Tucker, owner of a gift shop, and widow. Her husband died in an accident, however the police and insurance claimed it was suicide. Therefore, Sarah never received any life insurance and is still struggling to make ends meet. A year later, she's robbed at gun point at her store. Detective Randy Detweiler is assigned to her case, as the perpetrator resembles an old woman known as Gertie who has been holding up other stores. But things are not as they appear. Her ex-sister-in-law owns 20% of the store and wants Sarah to sell it. An old friend of Sarah, Christopher, is wealthy and wants to buy into the store and be partners. Things are happening in Sarah's life that are just not right. Sarah and Randy spend a lot of time investigating events and start having feelings for each other. But just when things start to heat up between them, Sarah is kidnapped. The author created a very good story and added likable characters. The book is captivating, gripping at times and packed with suspense and romance. A great mix for a good read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I also have the next two books in this series.
  • Hidden Fire on May 26, 2012

HIDDEN FIRE follows Finding Sarah (Pine Hills Police)in the Pine Hill Police series. Another well written story by prolific author Terry Odell. I like the main characters; Sarah and Randy and enjoyed the first book more than the second, but that's just my preference. Detective Randy Detweiler just returned from a six week training session when a body is discovered with his face shot off. Finding the killer makes it hard when the authorities can't identify the victim. In addition, the town council is considering disbanding the local police force and farming the work out to the county police. Randy, his partner Kovak, and the Chief are under pressure to solve the killing and prove that to the council that it would be detriment to the town to close its force. Sarah becomes a suspect in another crime that runs parallel to the murder. While she helps the detectives solve these crimes, her and Randy find themselves in real trouble and running for their lives. A very good plot with the usual suspense, mystery and romance ingredients. I just started the third book in this series, Saving Scott, and it's also really good.
  • Saving Scott on May 26, 2012

SAVING SCOTT is the 3rd book in the "Pine Hills Police" series. The 1st is Finding Sarah (Pine Hills Police)and the 2nd Hidden Fire (Pine Hills Police). These are the first books that I've read by author Terry Odell and I will certainly be checking out more of her work. Scott Whelan was a seasoned Homicide Detective before taking a job in a civilian position with the PHPD. Most people think of Scott as a hero, but Scott considers himself a failure and is beating himself up inside. He doesn't feel worthy enough to carry the badge, all because of a bank robbery that went south, even though, he was brutally beaten physically and has permanent damage. Ashley Eagan recently moved to Pine Hills and in the process of opening a chocolate bakery which has been a life long dream. The contractors run into several glitches which threatens to halt her grand-opening. But, that's the least Ashley has to worry about. Another shop owner turns up dead in her establishment and Ashley is the prime suspect. Luckily, Scott, who happened to have just moved in next door to Ashley in her apartment building, doesn't believe Ashley is guilty and sets out to prove it. When another body is discovered, the police have another problem...too many suspects. If you enjoy a good series with continuous characters; great plots, tons of suspense, action and romance, I highly recommend the Pine Hills Police trilogy.
