R. Matthews is a New Yorker tried and true. He was born in the borough of Queens and has the unique experience of spending significant time in each of the five boroughs and both counties of Long Island. He currently has an apartment in Midtown Manhattan and spends a lot of time with his family who moved to Nassau County, Long Island. He went to college in Suffolk County, Long Island; dated girls for over two years in both the Bronx and Brooklyn (not at the same time!); and has a good group of childhood friends from Staten Island that he spends a great deal of time with over the summers.

Matthews has taken his New York upbringing and put together the "How To Live In New York" book series to help give people looking to live in or visit NY a firsthand look at life in the busiest city in the world.
