A great story with a very interesting setup and premise. The author really knew what he was doing with this one, gradually building up the suspense while also taking time to focus on the characters and their interactions. As soon as I was introduced to the protagonist, I found myself becoming invested in him and the world he lives in. The main characters are written quite well and I found them to be easily relatable, that is, aside from a couple that are meant to be more distant. If you are here because you like Macro content -- and let's face it, that's probably how you came upon this story -- then you will not be disappointed. The descriptions of growth, as well as the giants' effect on the world around them, are extremely well written. In fact, I can say some of the best descriptions of the latter that I have ever seen were from this story. For the few of you that found this not based on the aforementioned macro-content, there's still plenty to enjoy. The story is unique and interesting with a well-paced, mysterious setup and a great payoff. While the reveal of the payoff actually seemed to disappoint me at first, I have to say I was quickly sucked back into the world by the phenomenal final act. This was most likely an issue of personal taste, and may not reflect the same way on you. If I could offer one piece of advice for enjoying this story, it is to not judge the twist for what you want it to be, and instead look at it for the masterfully done, high-concept payoff that it is. Remember, hardly any sort of payoff is ever going to be as good for you as what your imagination comes up with as it takes in all of the information. As a side note, this story also contains a few very nice illustrations by artist Lou Frank that are available in, at the very least, the PDF download. These are a nice bonus, especially for the aforementioned macro-enthusiasts. Overall this is a very excellent short-story that is well worth your time and money. For only 99 cents, I'd venture to say that the author is cheating himself. This is quality stuff, and you'll be getting more than your monies worth. I give this story my final rating of a 9.5/10, and my ratings tend to not be very generous, so take that as you will.
