Kathleen Martens

Biography

Kathleen Langmaack Martens currently lives with her husband Steuart in the San Francisco Bay Area. With a B.A in English Literature and Sociology and an M.A. in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut, writing, nature photography and intercultural communications have been her lifetime work and passions.
After a year at the Foreign Service Language Institute in her twenties studying Thai, Kathleen lived in Bangkok,Thailand. As an intercultural consultant in the 1970's and 80's, she helped employees from Major U.S. corporations to adjust to life working on infrastructure projects in remote areas of the world. While working with American projects in Kalimantan, Sumatra, Java and the Middle East, she traveled throughout South Asia, Southeast Asia and China in the 1970s and 80s. Visiting China as one of the early tourists admitted to the previously closed communist country, she toured and visited a commune and unwittingly took in the sights and sounds that would become a foundation for writing Really Enough: A True Story of Courage and Comedy with Margaret Zhao, published in 2012.
She has written and published for businesses and written custom photography books. This is her first memoir collaboration. She has three children, Kristen, Steuart and Campbell, a daughter-in-law, Isabella, and a son-in-law, Charlie.
