Enjoyed every moment and each page! The language, the slang, and the humor are outstanding. It took me back to the 60s and early 70s to learn more about life in the dark alleys and bright streets of L.A. The writer had the talent to describe the drug barons and dealers with their typical way of talking. What musical slang and expressions. It sounds to me like good old country music or background music of the gangster movies and the film noir. The characters described are presented in full three dimensions and one feels he knows them personally. It is a kind of war between the two worlds: the world of the drug guys, and that of law enforcement. Sometimes I felt it was an unfair war: several of the bad guys are so smart and many of the good guys are sometimes so clumsy…. I like the way the writer begins the story and then uses flashbacks to fill in the story, leaving the reader with many question marks until the end of it. The small stories and anecdotes throughout the book give the reader a better insight into the lives of these drug people. These stories, together with the musical language put a smile on my face. The fact that the book deals with real people, few of whom are still around, gives the sense of reality and a good and clear glance at this cruel world. What a magnificent life story of two human beings living the outlaw dangerous life, and then moving to the descent life. And last but not least: I liked the two heroes, not only because of moving back to the “king’s road”, but also because they were noble people dealing with ugly stuff. I wish a good script writer would read the book, love it like I did, and make a film out of it. It would be smash!!!
