Rodney Hart

Biography

With an English teacher mother who loved music and prose, it’s small wonder Rodney Hart grew up around words and tunes. His formative years in Canada included listening to his mother’s albums by Cat Stevens, Neil Diamond and Abba. In high school he became hooked on classic rockers like The Who, The Police and U2, and seriously into guitar gods like Eric Johnson. Life itself derailed his musical passions for years, but a switch in newspaper jobs from sports to news gave him more time and a new lease on his musical life. He spent 24 years in the newspaper business, including 10 in sports, and he recently left The Quincy (Ill.) Herald-Whig newspaper after 16 years, including 12 as a columnist/crime and courts reporter. These days he spends his time schmoozing and playing guitar at Second String Music with wife and business partner Sheryl, along with store felines Luckycat Vegas and Fast Eddie. He plays guitar in several local bands. One of his former bands, The Funions, recorded three CDs of original music.
