Pat Deuson has introduced an intelligent and interesting protagionist in Sierra Nevada (Neva) Moore. While wrestling with final preparations for a new residental cooking school, she gets an unexpected call that an uncle she hardly knows has died. He'd been living in Crystal Cove on the shores of Lake Superior, the largest, deepest and coldest of the Great Lakes, and Neva finds a small town full of cold people and cold secrets when she arrives to wrap up his estate. Ms. Deuson has crafted a fine tale of murders that look like suicides and a small-town sheriff with his own secrets who's in no hurry to investigate further. With enough suspects to go around, Neva finds herself at the center of a fine web of deception. Superior Longing is a really good read.
