Samantha Mullins

Biography

Hello my name is Samantha but my family and friends call me "Sam" or "Sammie" and on some sites I'm also known as "Spamicka" a funky nickname of mine.

I am a 32 year old, single mother of three boys all currently under ten. It's pretty stressful being a single mother, especially of three boys who are all wild and rambunctious. But they are my hearts and souls, and the world wouldn't be the same without them. We live in Aurora, Colorado.

I am currently a sophmore almost Junior in College, I go Metropolitan State University of Colorado, this had just switched from a state college to a University just this year, I mean officially. It's been a university or in the works for two years now. I'm getting my Bachelor's in Technical Communications, focusing on "Interactive Media" and minoring in "Digital Media". Who knows maybe in a few years you will see book covers with my work on them, or see a new video game with my graphics, or see websites, billboards the sky is the limit on what I might be able to do once I graduate.

I have 2 cats and a guinea pig. The cats are Tweety he's a 6year old orange and white tabby, and his sister Sylvester is almost pure black with spots of white on her nose, paws, and belly she is also 6years old. The guinea I think might be close to one but I'm not sure, I didn't get him so I wasn't able to ask about his age, his name is Optimus Prime, he's a orange and white, and is really pretty, really sweet, and really funny at times as well. I think it was the best present my oldest got for his birthday this year.

With the way the economy is these days, we are currently living with some of our family. We have the downstairs and they have the upstairs. It's worked out decently.

I love reading books, I didn't used to though.... when I was younger after I had gotten glasses I kept losing or breaking my glasses so I just gave up reading. And back then I was a huge Stephen King fan he was all I would read. But then in April 2009, I had finally broke down and borrowed "Twilight" from my best friend to find out what all the hoopla was about. I read it, loved it, and wanted more.... so I read the whole series of that and then moved on to others, such as the sookie stackhouse books, and the house of night, and the Black Dagger Brotherhood, etc, etc, etc. To this day I have read over 300 books since April 2009, and that count keeps growing.

I like to review books just for fun, I'm not a professional reviewer. I just love talking about books. I know I may suck at my reviews at times, but that's ok cause it still makes me happy.

I'm also a writer, i'm currently writing a book though, I'm suffering from a major writers block, and I can't figure out what I want to call my book. I'm five chapters in and still don't have a clue what to call it. :(

  • The Athena Effect on Oct. 10, 2012

This is a book I would want to read over an over. It caught my interest from the beginning, and when I say it kept my interest, I mean it kept me up all night long I think I went to sleep at 7:30 this morning, with 91% read by the time I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. Then of course I finished it up this afternoon. This is a cross I feel between Young Adults, and Urban Fantasy. It's a book that older teens and Adults of all ages could enjoy. This is about a girl name Cal (Caledonia)who lives with her parents in the middle of no where in Eureka. She was happy in ignorant of the world outside. But then her parents die in a tragic accident and she is sent to live with her aunt she never even knew about. She's overwhelmed by everything, cause not only is the world new to here, but she can see people's emotions. So she tries get through her day with her head low, disappearing into the world. Until she catches the eye of one seemingly bad boy named Cal (Calvin). Quinky dink on the names right, I think it's cute. But one night she rescues Calvin from getting beat up by some "ruffians". And from there, he was drawn to her, falling more and more in love with her each day. She made him feel alive, and made him look towards the future, and he showed her things of the world, loving the way she would light up with everything. They fell in love, and it was a great kind of love. Soul mate kind of love. However, every story needs it's conflict, something that throws a wrench into things. Well of course this one isn't any exception. Come to find out the reason to why Caledonia is the way she is with her being able to see emotions. Her parents were part of an experiment that was supposed to messed with their genes, instead it messed with their heirs genes. So Caledonia, and this other girl Lyla both have two different color eyes and both can see and through emotions. Professor Teddy the one who has orchestrated the Athena project. He finds out about Caledonia and wants her so he kidnaps her. he's pretty weird making the children live in rooms made up like dollhouses and dressed them in like 50's styled clothing very odd. But Cali wasn't buying any of it. She wanted out, she wanted to get back to Calvin, and Calvin is trying to get Cali back. Well Calvin does find her, Caledonia climbs down a bedsheet to get to her love. Well Max, The head of Professor Teddys guards, he had something up his sleeve, and after Cali escaped, he revealed to Professor Teddy that he wiped him out financially and has is taking the twins with him, and that he has his own plans for them. Which makes you think UH OH & YAY another book. I cannot wait until then next book is out, this is a series I could really sink my teeth into

I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review. Hope(less) is a story about a girl named Gabby, she can see colors around people, that isn't an aura. One day walking home from her volunteering at the hospital she noticed a different color on some guy she saw by the water. Much to her surprise he ended up being a werewolf named Sam. After getting to know Sam, she learned a lot about werewolves, and ended up moving in with him as her foster parents were expecting a child of their own. Once she turned 18 Sam wanted her to go and be introduced to all the unmated males in his pack. While she didn't agree with it, she went, because she was hell bent on not letting other determine her life for her and she had goals of going to college and making a career for herself. Well during the last Introduction she met with a massive amount of wolves, and none sparked nothing in her, until she was walking back into the house and the seclusive and quiet Clay was standing there. Boy did this urk Gabby off, this was not supposed to happen. So her aggressive and stubborn nature confronted this tall dark and silent man, and said somethings she shouldn't have, did it seal her fate though? Gabby gets to her new house and meets her new roommate Rachel, just barely gets settled in when a strange dog comes almost literally knocking on her door, ok,ok,ok he sat down on the towel next to Rachel in the backyard when they were going to sunbathe together. But after a few minutes the bells clicked and she realized her words had come back to bite her in the butt, because the giant dog was Clay in his wolf form. Throughout this book Gabby learns to communicate with Clay because he refuses to talk, and she learns to trust him, and she in a way learns to love him. However, there's a new color she's seeing with some wolves, it's bugging her not having the answers she needed, meanwhile Clay keeps getting challenged by other unmated wolves. One night Two of the "other" wolves had came to her house and tried to take her, and attack Clay, well one of them so happens to have the same connection to her as Clay does. This confuses the hell out of her. Will this be the end of everything Clay has worked for in getting Gabby To claim him? Will Gabby claim him even though there is another potential mate for her? What is going on with the "other" wolves? This story enthralled me to no end. The writing was superb, the story in itself was extremely creative and original. I give Melissa Haag 5++ stars for this book. I just hope we'll get to see more of Gabby & Clay in future books, and now I'm dying to get my hands on the next book.
