The first part of my life was dedicated to the service in the Soviet Navy during the Cold War years; the second one - to the teaching of English language (ESL) and to the translation from English into Russian. I translated a number of printed books and albums on Art, Photography, Cinema, Architecture & Design, Literature, Music, etc.
I am greatful to my family, my teachers, comrades and collegues for the chance to live the life I wished to. Thank you.

P.S. I think, I am the first person on Smashwords, who decided to pave the way for indie translators (from English into Russian, at least), who wished to have chance to chose original texts in English, translate them and publish at Smashwords (with the permission of original authors, of course).

  I was born and raised in the atheist country (the USSR), and from the school years was told and knew a lot about descrepances in the Biblical texts (there was even widely published book 'Bible for non-believers'. Is there any sense in finding new descrepances? If people want to believe in God they believe in him, and no contradictions in the holy books would prevent them. I think, there is no sense in finding some new contradictions in theology. To my mind religion is a remedy for the souls of those who believe. Life is not an easy matter. Let people's spirituality help and guide them, if they have no other guidelines and remedies.

  Good story with poetic mood. But some remarks. First, the title 'A Man and His Ass' sounds a bit dubious. To my mind 'An Old Man and His Donkey' looks better (Hemingwayan). Second, did you really need that strange crazy horseman, riding nowhere?

  The book raises and reminds the readers about global survival problems of nowadays. The style of the author and composition are in some ways identical to Nevil Shute's and Arthur Hailey's ones. To my mind the drawback of the book is in the lack of the solid subject line, connecting all its contents.

  Fate moves an orphaned but sharp-witted Perry Scrimshaw from the docks and slums of Victorian Southampton to severe prison in Buenos Aires. But his desire to survive at any cost and reunite with the girl he loves is irresistible. The author managed to combine Dickensian descriptiveness with Charrièrian inventiveness.   Thought-provoking and captivating book, written in smooth English and interspersed with Australian everyday spoken language, idioms and slang. Describing different sides of Australian life (the Navy, business, university life, Sydney city life, fashions, etc.) the author also delves into the recent history (Vietnam war and antiwar movement, politics, etc.). He also dares to weave into the plot and connect with the main character his version of mysterious disappearance of Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt on December 17, 1967. And it is also charming love and family story. Personally I have read the book in one breath. (review of free book)

  This historical novel is a literature monument to Ferdinand Magellan and the men of his expedition who first circumnavigated the Earth about 500 years ago and proved in reality that our planet is a globe. It is also a tribute to ‘supernumerary’ Antonio Pigafetta on whose diary the book is based and who in fact was a secretary and scientist of the expedition. The author has done a great job studying, reinterpreting and giving vitality to Pigafetta’s records, penetrating into the nuances of the World political situation, religion issues, discoveries in geography, cartography, astronomy and navigation at that time and allotting psychological features to the people closely associated with the preparation and conduct of the expedition, as well as to those, whom they met on the way or who tried to destroy it. The fact that the author, professional sailor himself, has repeated the route of the expedition under sail makes this book unique.

  Very interesting book, written in a beautiful language, which seems to have served as the beginning of the disclosure of the author's undoubted literary talent. It is full of descriptions of real life episodes, memories and reflections of this extraordinary person, who managed to overcome the unfavorable circumstances of the initial period of his life. It perfectly complements the library of memories of the participants of the Vietnamese campaign and allows you to get a complete impression of what was happening at that time.

  A detailed description of the life circumstances of a typical American family in the 1920s and 1930s. Lots of details. The author undoubtedly did a great job remembering and supplementing his memories with archival materials. In my opinion, the book is good for leisurely, thoughtful reading.
