- Smashwords Style Guide for Idjits
on July 29, 2012
Review by: Dave of Birmingham. UK.
Yes, Mark Coker's comprehensive Smashwords Guide is a wondrous thing, yet when I began wading through its encyclopaedic contents, I became a bit worried, began to doubt my ability to institute even the basics. Thus, I brooded, made a few notes, chewed my pencil into shreds wondering why so many thousands had absorbed this mighty work, and then confidently splurged off their pages enabling that Meatgrinder thingy to gobble up their novel without emitting a single burp....
Ah, but then I spotted a booklet called "Smashwords Style Guide for Idjits." by one Rebecca Melvin of Double Edge Press. I downloaded it, read it, experimented with its seven pages of instructions, understood it, and implemented her careful condensation of that voluminous Smashwords encyclopaedia into a workable format. Verily, 'tis good to regain ones confidence and to start whistling again.
So my many industrious bruise-fingered friends, if, like me, you just want to know how to implement the basic steps enabling your precious book to be formatted without needing all that other fancy stuff, this sensible little book for "simple text only books" by Rebecca is absolutely essential.
I am damned glad I found it. May heaven pour down a million blessings upon Rebecca Melvin!
