I was born in 1951 in Aldridge in England, and migrated to Australia in 1964. I was a research technician at the Waite Agricultural Research institute of the University of Adelaide for 17 years. After that, my wife and I founded an aquarium and animal feed shop called Betta Trading in the Adelaide Hills town of Littlehampton, and we have now run it for over 20 years.
I have written a number of science fiction books and some animal books.
I am in the process of publishing on Smashwords my own books as well as some written by my Father, Richard F. Challis, and our cat, Luna Challis
This book gives advice on keeping and breeding 36 species of tetra. It is based on the author's over 50 years experience in keeping fish and the things he has learned in over 20 years of running an aquarium shop.
This book brings together in one volume the 3 novellas of the War and Space Trilogy.
"War and Space",
"The Local War" and
"Battle for Homeworld".
Although these are 'space war books' they are not the typical unrealistic space battles so common in science fiction, but are an attempt at examining whether war in space between advanced races is even possible.
The Homeworld of the peaceful Idaltus is attacked by a huge war fleet. The Idaltus cannot take effective action against the attackers. Every Idaltu ship that jumps to the Homeworld system is destroyed as it re-enters our universe.
The Earth exploration ship, the 'Highway to Heaven' is damaged when it jumps to the system and has to fight its way to Homeworld.
This book makes fun of scifi ideas.
The Flagship of the Earth fleet investigates the homeworld of aliens who have been wiping out life in 30 galaxies galaxies.
The 11 year old tele-empathic twins Chance and Nigel play a vital part in the investigation with Chance taking a shuttle and getting marooned on the planet.
He has to cope with hostile aliens, bloodsuckers and nocturnal predators.
This book makes fun of sci-fi ideas.
An unarmed Earth Exploration Ship is attacked by unknown aliens with more advanced technology.
The other two novellas of the trilogy are 'The Local War' and 'Battle for Homeworld'.
This trilogy is an attempt to look at whether space war is possible, and like the previous 4 novels of the Bad Boy cycle makes fun of some accepted Sci-fi ideas. This is not a conventional space war book.
