Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Utica NY. Utica is in central NY state one hour east of Syracuse and one and a half hours west of Albany on I-90. It's hardy country with rolling hills, surrounded by lots of farms. We sit at the foothills to the Adirondack mountains with thousands of forested acres and with lots of lakes and streams. I think this is why I am mostly an outdoor type guy. I love to go fishing, running , or riding my bike. The seasons change distinctly here so you have no question which one it is. Winter especially can be extremely cold and lots of snow. I took up snow shoe racing a few years ago in order to have some winter fun and use a snowstorm to advantage. You will notice many outdoor activities in my book and there is no doubt where I live had an effect on that.
When did you first start writing?
I just started writing at age 69. My dad always would say " Steve you have so many words in your head, you should write a book" well I finally got to it. The work and learning process has been amazing but I am enjoying it a great deal.
