The story is great, but not very different from other fantasy stories (some times you are able do guess what it is going to happen many pages before it happens).
Furthermore I would like to point out how the three books (Book of Deacon, Great Convergence and Battle of Verril) are, in fact one book. I do not really like when a book end and some characters are left hanging from a cliff or seemingly dead, when it is obvious that they are not going to die...
The worst of the trilogy, but if you want to know what the end will be you need to read it. I found the plot kind of boring, long battle scenes that seemed they would never end and a bunch of expected surprises.
Nothing new under the sun, but that should be expected when the starting point is... classical. However I enjoy it (but I am partial to Pride and Prejudice-like romance, I doubt you will relish it if you do not appreciate the struggle of Darcy and Eliza) it is better than many Abigail Reynolds "what if" and worse than few, but maybe is to similar to "The last man in the world". I appreciated very much the fact that some events that I expected to happen, did not happen.
His Good Opinion: A Mr. Darcy Novel
on July 25, 2012
I loved it. Read in less than a day. I give it just 4 star because... lack of originality. The story is of course Austen's and the idea of seeing everything from Darcy's point of view is not new (actually it is pretty much en vogue, since are appearing other novel as Mr. Knightely diariy and so on...). Many of the dialogues are also verbatim the word of the original novel.
Despite all this I suggest it to any P&P lover such as me!
The story is nice. However if you are a fan of Pride and Prejudice you might not like it. In fact the beautiful thing of Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice is that a woman and a men love each other so much that they are able to change themselves for the sake of , the other. In this book Darcy is neither arrogant or proud but he is just an ordinary good guy (almost too good) that hides a terrible secret...
