Terry C. Simpson

Biography

I grew up in Barbados reading what would be considered fantasy: books about Br'er Rabbit and Anansi the Spider. I was always addicted to reading and part of that stemmed from my father's refusal to allow me to watch anything on T.V that wasn't educational. I thank him for that.

From those youthful books, I dabbled into the collection of my father's, which consisted of Louis L'Amour westerns and Don Pendleton's, Executioner Mack Bolan. Then one day I found Asimov and Tolkien, and I realized that by simply reading I could visit worlds and meet peoples that no one else could.

This all led to my love of English Language, Literature and History in school and my love for writing. From Shakespeare to Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, I was all in. In Barbados when submitting any project, we were encouraged to write as much as possible and not limit ourselves, and I reveled this. I wrote stories, poems and essays by the score.

When I moved to New York, I didn't have the time to pursue these avenues although my teachers saw my love and tried to encourage it. Needing to work became my focus. I honestly think my love for reading sparked again after I read book one of Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. After that, it grew and grew.

When I sat down and decided to write about the worlds and peoples that often invaded my consciousness, waking and asleep, I didn't know it would lead me here. It was something to do, something I had a passion for. I heard so many positive things from friends that I decided to see what people outside of my immediate circle thought, and I joined several writing and critique groups. I studied tirelessly to be a better writer.

And now here I am. Still working, but now doing so in something I truly love. Writing. I hope that I can draw readers in and make them live the thousands of lives, smell the scents, see the wonders, live the struggles, the triumphs, the grief, the joy, the love that I conjure when my characters and worlds visit me.
