Tawanda Freeman-Thompson

Biography

When I thought of a future career I always wanted to be a writer. What I would write about didn’t matter, I only knew that I wanted to be writing something all the time and getting paid to do it didn’t seem like a bad idea. I started writing constantly when I was 8 years old, I wrote short stories and diary entries. I discovered how interesting poetry was when I was 14 years old and started writing poems. I was always going to the library and borrowing books about writing. When a discount bookstore opened up I started buying books about writing, but continued to borrow writing books from the library. I’d spend hours writing every night, often until past 1am. I fell asleep while writing and there would be ink stains on the sheets that sank down into the mattress. I had to check my pen to see if any ink was left, sometimes there wasn’t. My family has occasionally asked me to write business letters on their behalf and I have done so, but only because it’s writing and that’s what I do. Now I do late night writing on my laptop. I still fall asleep while writing, but without the ink stains and wasted ink. I enjoy writing poetry, instructional manuals and guides, and journaling or blogging. I’m also writing fiction and fantasy books and think I enjoy it, but don’t feel like I’m getting anywhere with them. On this TFreemanThompson.wordpress.com I will be share my writing progress and process. For a day in my life, thoughts, and remembering old times I blog at tshaywrites.wordpress.com

Smashwords Interview

What do your fans mean to you?
Well, I don't currently have any fans. When I get some they would mean a lot to me. That's the reason why I have contact information available so that they have a way to contact me directly instead of through a publisher, for example. I would encourage aspiring writers to write even if it all comes out as nonsense. I have a couple of poems that have some made up words and don't really make sense, but I was freewriting and because people told me that they were good, they are in the book "Shadows" instead of in the trash.
What are you working on next?
I'm working on 2 other poem books. One is about a difficult relationship and one is about World of Warcraft. I'm also working on 2 fiction books, a memoir of part of my life, a book on understanding Schizophrenia, and a book on understanding computers. That's a lot of projects, but I work on whatever I'm inspired to work on at any random moment. I'd complete a project faster if I focus on just one at a time, but it wouldn't be as much fun and while working on writing projects this way I don't have the excuse of writer's block.
