ETX was a large influence on my finding the courage to go abroad and teach; something I have done for over 4 years now. I don't know whether to kiss or kill him. This book makes life abroad sound a lot tougher than it actually is, which may be a good thing. There is a lot of valuable advice inside, especially one thing: Most big problems Expats have seem to occur when drunk or on drugs or while hanging out with drunks and druggies. Also, he lived in Russia which skews his advice; most countries are safer and have much kinder people. Ask the Poles, Latvians or Germans what they think about the Russians.

Funny in the same way that Beavis and Butthead are funny. Also rather disturbing, possibly to the parents of students at English training centers. Good thing they can't read in English!
