Michael Carter is a college professor at North Carolina State University. His wife Jean C Carter is an obstetrician-gynecologist in private practice. They live in Raleigh, North Carolina. When not at work, they pursue their many interests, including volunteering, traveling, early music and playing reproductions of period instruments. Their award winning book Sweet Grapes remains one of the only books on choosing childfree living after infertility.
The Carters, like many couples faced the challenge of infertility. The difference: they ultimately chose a childfree lifestyle. Sweet Grapes shares their own experiences and many interviews with others, serving as the basis for the communication and decision-making process workshops they sometimes do for couples struggling with infertility.
