Smashwords book reviews by Tom Canter

  • What Goes Down Must Come Up on Oct. 06, 2013

Nicely done short story. Would like to see it in a much longer version.
  • I See in Black and White on Oct. 10, 2013

My little girl loved this on my e-reader. I guess I'll have to buy her one for Christmas so I can download more books by this author for her. Thank you.
  • The Vampire Hand Guide: Tips, Myths & Advice on Oct. 10, 2013

I'm not into vampire stuff really but after reading 3 short stories here on Smashwords ( I won't mention there titles as it is a different author) I decided to look deeper into this. What an interesting read. I may have been 'swayed' to the darker side but I guess time will tell. Enjoyed this 'Hand Guide' VERY much. Even if you don't want to become a vampire it's very informative.
  • The Torans of Andor 'Out of Time' on Oct. 10, 2013

After reading A Vampire in the Vatican series by this author I discovered this book. Fantasy adventure has always been my favourite and I wasn't disappointed here. The story is fast moving which is what I like, simply written and the freshest subject matter I've come across in quite awhile. I wanted to read it a second time straight away but my 16 year old grabbed my e-reader and is now reading it. I hope he learns the lessons Peter the hero of the story learnt. My son was describing things from the book to me then informed me he'd seen pictures on the authors web page. I'm going for a look now before I read it again. 5 stars for this author, I'm now a fan.
  • Gypsy Spell on Nov. 01, 2013

I don't normally read gypsy stuff but this was very enjoyable and funny. A longer story would have been great but maybe I'm just greedy.
  • A Vampire in the Vatican 'Brotherhood of the Sword' on Nov. 06, 2013

I'm another that has been waiting for this book to be published. I was not disappointed. What a great story. It took me four hours to read which was perfect for me. I read the other reviews but don't believe I could have managed what Martinelli did. I suppose he figured he had nothing to lose. Very believable storyline. Yes, it gets faster and faster as it continues. BIG surprise with one of the main characters, very sad. Very good 'twists' through the book and the ending is incredible (as far as storytelling goes) . The parchment is definately the key to the whole outcome, except the final page. As Daryn said, it doesn't offend the Catholic church. I didn't think so and it's explained why a vampire is in pain when a crucifix is before them. Great stuff. 5 stars again foir the author.
  • The Torans of Andor 'Out of Time' GRAPHIC NOVEL on Nov. 10, 2013

I already had the 'text' version of this book but decided to grab the Graphic Novel when it turned up. The story is excellent, pure fantasy and delightful. The CG is wonderful. Definitely 5 stars again.
  • Sons of Monkeys - A New Study Of The Human Animal By A Down On His Luck Chinaman With A Zoology Degree on Dec. 12, 2013

This book was recommended to me and I admit at first I was reluctant to buy it. Glad I did. What a wonderful approach to evolution. I felt like the author was sat there talking to me. It made me start to think about things I thought I knew. I'm giving it to my 16 year old son to read hoping it will encourage him to look at everything a little differently. I agree with Linda Arditto, it's BRILLIANT.
  • Pulchritudinous Book 1 on Jan. 12, 2014

Oh yes. This series in one book will make it easier although I don't think anybody was complaining about them coming one at a time. I've downloaded the full book as well as each part, It's going to seem a long time to book 2.
  • That Moment... on Jan. 29, 2014

This book was recommended by a friend who I hadn't seen for several years and by chance met in the street. We went for coffee just to catch up and started talking about books. We were both surprised when she recommended a book for my little ones at Smashwords and I told her it was already their favourite. Then she recommended this for me. I read it as soon as I got home. Wonderful stories and beautifully written. It does make you think about your own life and little things that have happened over the years that you'd almost forgotten about. I'm going to get my older kids to read it too. They are in their early teens and I think it will benefit their outlook on life. Thank you to the author for giving these stories to us free of charge.
  • Gravity Upstream on Jan. 29, 2014

I admit I love sci-fi and after reading the reviews I thought this was going to be a great read and I bought it. I didn't find it a great read at all, I had difficulty getting an image in my head as to what was going on. It sounded like someone having a bad 'trip' on drugs. Now in all fairness with so many top reviews I don't want to knock it down too far as it maybe just wasn't my cup of tea. I would normally rate this on value for money but instead of giving 1 star I'll give 3.
  • In Extremis on Jan. 29, 2014

I don't normally read horror but after saying that this was a great read. Yes I would have liked to have read a longer version too but I'm grateful the author gave is the pleasure of reading this at no charge. Good creepy story. :)
