Valerie Buchanan completed a dietetic internship at Massachusetts General Hospital after receiving an Associates Degree in Communications from Endicott College and a Bachelors Degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition from the University of Hawaii. Her internship experience allowed her to produce a video which led her to pursue a job at Hearst Argyle Television where she became an associate producer for "Living Better with Carrie Wiatt" and Good Housekeeping consumer reports. Her strong interest in health and fitness propelled her to leave television and become a personal trainer, instructor, nutritionist and later Fitness Director for Gold's Gym. She is married, living in Florida and is currently working on her first novel.
