Liesbeth Heenk

Publisher info

Dutch art historian with a PhD on Van Gogh's drawings. Having worked at Christie's in London and at Sotheby's in Amsterdam, I set up my business as independent cultural entrepreneur, author and publisher in 2009.

I specialize in publishing e-books for museums and art lovers. All my e-books are based on the 'Read Before You Look' concept: you will have a better museum experience when you read about the works on view in advance, especially if this information is provided in a simple and engaging way. Smashwords Interview

Liesbeth, are you an author or a publisher?
I have written several books myself and recently also started to publish others. Some of my books have been published by a traditional publisher, but when I discovered self-publishing in December 2012 I was hooked! Since then I have been writing, editing and publishing.
What type of subjects are you dealing with?
As an art historian specialized in Van Gogh I wrote a few e-books in the series 'Secrets of Van Gogh'. Much to my delight, the very first one "The 1-Hour van Gogh Book" was a best-seller with thousands of downloads! This was obviously very stimulating, so I decided to write more.

Unfortunately, I am a rather slow writer. My second book for instance, 'Van Gogh's Inner Struggle' cost me eight months to write. That is why I also started to publish other authors. Few people know how the self-publishing process works, so they can benefit from my experiences. I published several books on Amsterdam museums in the series 'Amsterdam Museum Ebooks', such as "The New Rijksmuseum", a great guide that one can read before going to the museum. It sells like hot cakes!

Together with Rembrandt specialist Michiel Kersten I produced the e-book 'Rembrandt - De Etser', an interesting and very exciting project. In the book he reveals the hidden beauty of Rembrandt's etchings. A most enjoyable read!
