W.G. Garvey

Biography

W. G. Garvey (1950 - ) holds a BA in history from Oakland University and an MBA from the University of Michigan. He has been an indian school teacher in Phoenix, a naval flight officer in Virginia, a midwest banker, a Big Five consultant, an audit manager for an international manufacturer and a systems analyst for a hospital. For a year-and-a-half he was a laid-off audit manager, during which time he rediscovered his love of biking, cross-country skiing, and writing - especially writing (but the sleeping-in was nice, too).

Garvey speaks execrable French and worse Spanish, which is sad because his favorite cities are Paris, Barcelona and Ciudad Juarez before the drug wars. He speaks no Mandarin whatsoever, but still ended up in a Shanghai ping pong parlor with a boozy British expat, swilling Tsingtao beer at midnight in 120 degree heat while taking on all comers.

He drives American, prefers wine to beer (except German) and is a proud Navy veteran. His politics shade liberal, even though his first presidential vote was for Richard M. Nixon. He won't wear baseball caps because they flatten his thinning hair. He loves the Leelanau Peninsula of northern Michigan and his wife, daughter and son, although probably in reverse order (with of course the wife first and the other two a close second, in order to preserve familial harmony).

Garvey never, ever tweets.

The man considers John D. MacDonald a god, and Steve Hamilton the god's understudy. The Chain Locker is his first novel. A prequel is in the works, as well as a murder mystery set in Paris and Juarez. He promises that these will be snarkier.
