I am required to be critical of writing in my daily work as an English educator, so I sat down with my usual "red pen" mind to read Lindsey's book. I don't remember ever finding anything to critique because I was swept away on an extraordinary journey, during which I met extraordinary people in their ever day lives and sat through each experience of Lindsey's transfixed. I think the last time I laughed out aloud, so spontaneously, when reading a book was when I read a book of Fannie Flagg's about twenty years ago! The natural voice in Lindsey's writing is charming and engaging. Lindsey pulls no punches and has an uncanny ability to find the humour and humanity in each situation she describes. She has clearly loved her journeys and has a wonderful knack of finding out other peopke's stories to share with the reader in a profoundly simple yet captivating manner. Her prose is laced with colloquialisms that make laughter tumble out of the reader or evokes other emotions that are unexpected. I loved this book - it was a delightfully vicarious escape from the routine of life. It is an enlightening and fun read and I shall read it again and again and shall not leave it adorning my bookshelves.
