Reality Book Group: Can literature be low falutin’? Apparently so--I laughed my literary ass off. Funny and smart at the same time. No wonder it was selected "number one" at the Boston Theater Marathon. Is there such a thing as dark comic magical realism? Read: “Room with Maintenance”. J.P. Sartre (“No Exit”) meets O’Henry (“The Gift of the Magi”) meets Woody Allen. Glad I stumbled on them!

An extraordinary short play about attachment, survival, and lies…and the sometimes unbearable cost of knowing and maintaining the truth. Painful, haunting, and powerful. Highly recommended!

In this play, and his other shorts, Grossman brings real characters to life in such a brief span of time. It’s as if we’ve known them forever. But there’s always more, something else going on. In this play, “medium security” means so many different things! It is truly a play about medium security in all its iterations, and you may find yourself, as I did at the end, counting how many different ways it is used. And they’re all apt! I also loved that the theater audience/play reader plays a part in the play! Very funny, clever, and again, highly recommended!
