VERY intriguing. This is an extremely short story but the writing is delightful and the tension is set up from beginning to end. It's the kind of psychological mind-f*** that leaves you wondering...
  • Let's Get Digital: How To Self-Publish, And Why You Should on July 22, 2011
    star star star star star
Written with the trademark wit and intelligence his blog readers have come to expect, David Gaughran has crafted a winner with "Let's Get Digital". It is a one-stop shop for everything a writer reads to know before pursuing the self-publishing path, from how to format, promote, and better one's work. I particularly enjoyed the 33 testimonials in part 3, showing it IS possible to make it as an indie. Gaughran is an eloquent writer who obviously put a lot of time and effort into making this book perfect. Any writer needs to pick it up--it will convince you to put yourself out there and quit letting that manuscript collect dust under your desk.

This novel is poetic, poignant, and devastating. A beautiful romance novel, "Barbary Point" is a story of love, loss, hope, and the strength that comes from all three. I recommend it.

Cox is an eloquent and talented writer whose poetic prose in the two short stories of "Cage Life" draws the reader in. "Cage Life" is beautiful and heartbreaking, while "The Usurper" has a surprise ending that took me completely off-guard. Her descriptions are vivid and her characters are real. I'm looking forward to reading much more by Karin Cox.

I already loved Pj's parody work before this collection, but this is even better than Schnitzel. Both stories, Melvin the Dry Cleaning Zombie and Vampire Shoe Warehouse are laugh-out-loud funny and just plain fun. No to mention they both have cute, happy endings :) I recommend this collection for a good laugh and an upbeat escape!

I am a huge fan of strong, witty heroines, and this novel did not disappoint - Morgan Bailey is the new bad-ass on the paranormal romance scene. The book is reminiscent of Buffy but with the literary talent of the scores of paranormal writers out there like Kim Harrison or Jeaniene Frost. It is a novel that keeps the reader laughing and guessing - plus, a couple of cool twists you just DON'T see coming. I highly recommend it and I'm looking forward to reading the next. This series has the potential to be the Next Great!
  • Shero on Oct. 22, 2011

"Shero" by Jack Wallen is a fun romp in Size 14 patent-leather Mary Janes! It is full of sass and attitude, with a narrator who feels like a girlfriend gossiping over coffee and sweet stuff. The ultimate theme of this novel is one that everyone should learn -- it's a story about one man's (girl's!) struggle to remain true to himself in the face of a world that won't let him do so easily. I recommend this book for a read that is funny, full of life, and for a date with a character you'll want to hear more from after the book ends!

  • I Zombie I on Nov. 14, 2011

I'd never read zombie horror before, though I DO enjoy the occasional horror novel. I read Wallen's Fringe Killer series and his "Shero" before moving on to this and I have to admit--I should have read this one first. This book is awesome. It has the author's trademark lyrical writing that tends more towards literary prose. It also has the cringe-worthy, skin-crawling gore and horror that Wallen does so well. He is a true horror writer, through and through. I fell in love with the protagonist, as well as the feeling of being inside Jacob's journal during the zombie apocalypse. I'm looking forward to picking up the next book in this series!
