My old man was a fighter, not a boxer, a fighter. He was also Welterweight Champ of the Sixth Fleet for a few years. He always said, "It's not the power of the blows that stop you, it's the angles that they come at you from." This collection is like that. Every single story in the book starts out straight and then goes Kattywhompus on you. The authors let you think you got them and their story all figured then, they elbow hook you, spin you around and let you have it right in the kidneys. If you're looking for safe, fair and comfortable -- forget it -- these are the big kids and they don't have time to coddle you along familiar paths. They're gonna come at you from the side, from the back, from the up and from the down, from the out and from the in and frequently, they're gonna make all that happen all at once. It's like riding with the top down, blindfolded, backwards and naked through a coin-op car wash. Know what, though? You will know at all times you're in the hands of master craftsmen and craftswomen who will surround you with their art, keep you safe from harm and dazzle your eyes with all the colors and beauty of their work. Enjoy. (Okay there is one little thing you should know before you read. You know the part I said about "keeping you safe"? . . . I lied. That's up to you. Read fast, stay loose and watch out for those angles I mentioned. They can cut pretty deep.)
