Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in South Florida, where I walked barefooted on its hot sand until I was forced by my mom to put on shoes, and where I learned to swim in its warm oceans. I spent a lot of time climbing to the top of trees or sneaking away to lay on the roof of our house to watch the clouds drift by. I think finding solitude in nature added an instinctual awareness of my connection to God.
When did you first start writing?
My earliest memory of writing was the letters I would write to God as a child. I must admit that some were pretty weighted with guilt.
