  • Emergency Economy: A PFRI Paper by Dr. Imran Chaudhry and Saleena Karim on Jan. 27, 2013

This is one fine thesis of a 'cashless economic system' one which seems out of Iqbal's Marghdeen. This is designed for small communities in the beginning but the core ideals of this system once realized could make this system a working hypothesis for metropolis community also. The beauty of the system lies in the fact that the trade or the transaction is not between individuals but between individual and the community, this makes it absolutely a service oriented and welfare minded. Sometimes this could be exploited by the shortsighted members of the community but because of tight community interrelationships this could be minimized and in a longer run eradicated with the maturity of the community, once people come to realize the mutual benefits and satisfaction that comes out of it. The negative and positive accounts there offsetting and community fund are dealt well and provide a good insight into the system. For me it was very interesting to contemplate on the issues excessive positive accounts and then the exchange value of one skill over the other. When working and living in a community with the core basis of faith and ehsan it is very easy to pass on the excessive positive balances towards offsetting the negative balances of the community because ehsan comes from husn and husn means beauty that comes from balance. In such dispensation one skill is not better than the other because acquiring one skill is the self actualization of an individual and performing is the basic satisfaction that he derives which becomes his main incentive in imparting it. This is a very valuable paper a beginning for a Marghdeen!
